Inflation drops in April

Sri Lanka’s inflation, as measured by the change in the Colombo Consumers’ Price Index (CCPI) declined to 3.8 percent in April 2018 from 4.2 percent in March 2018, the Department of Census and Statistics reported.

The CCPI for all items for the month of April was 121.5 recording an increase of 0.1 index points or 0.08 percent from 121.4 in March 2018. This was due to the decrease of food items by 0.11 percent and increase of non-food items by 0.20 percent.

The year-on-year (YoY) inflation of Food Group has decreased from 5.1 percent in March 2018 to 3.0 percent in April 2018 and that of Non-food Group increased from 3.7 percent in March to 4.0 percent in April during this period.For the month of April 2018, on year to year basis, contribution to inflation by food commodities was 0.89 percent and the contribution of Non Food items was 2.8 percent.The moving average inflation rate for the month of April 2018 was 5.9 percent. The corresponding rate for the month of March was 6.1 percent.
