Vegetable prices on the decline

In the wake of the increasing supply of vegetables, there is a decline in the retail and wholesale prices of both up-country and low-country vegetables at the Pettah and Dambulla markets, the Central Bank reported.

The price of beans had decreased in the Dambulla market because of the favourable supply from Nuwara Eliya and Jaffna while price of carrots decreased at the Pettah and Dambulla markets because of a favourable supply from Nuwara Eliya and Kandapola.

Price of brinjal also decreased because of a favourable supply from Embilipitiya and Anuradhapura while the price of pumpkin has decreased because of a favourable supply from Monaragala and Galenbindunuwewa.

The price of local red onions had also decreased in Pettah due to a favourable supply from Puttalam while the price of imported Red Onions had decreased because of the high quality of local varieties while the price of imported Big Onions had decreased because of the availability of local potatoes from Welimada.

Meanwhile, Nuwara Eliya Dedicated Economic Center Mangager Mr Bandara told reporters that prices of carrot, Leaks, cabbage and potato have also decreased in their areas.

However, Prices of some fish varieties increased in Peliyagoda market due to low supply from Southern coastal area.
