The Department of Meteorology says that due to the low level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, showery weather conditions are expected to continue on today (01).

Cloudy skies are also possible over most part of the island while showers or thundershowers will occur in most parts of the island.

Fairly heavy showers about 100 mm may occur at some places particularly in Northern, North-central, Eastern, North-western, Uva and Central provinces.

Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm may occur at some places elsewhere.

Misty conditions may occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning.

The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather advisory urging naval and fishing communities to remain vigilant due to heavy rain strong winds and rough seas.

The possibility for heavy showers or thundershowers and sudden roughness, associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) in the sea areas off the coast extending from Trincomalee to Colombo via Kankasanturai and Puttalam and Hambantota to Batticaloa is high.

Naval and fishing communities are also requested to be vigilant in this regards, the department said.

The advisory also said that as at 6.00 am this morning the active clouds were developed in the Northern, North-Western and South-eastern sea areas and are likely to persist during next few hours.

Showers or thundershowers can be expected at several places in the other sea areas.
