Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said he had instructed the ministers to complete all development programmes being carried out by the government within three months.

He said this at a ceremony at Temple Trees where cheques were handed over to samurdhi lottery winners.

“There is no reason for the ministers to delay the development work because currently it is a UNP government which holds office and as such there is no one to sabotage the development work,” the Prime Minister said.

“We stabilised the economy and made it possible for Sri Lanka to repay loan installments. However, last year’s political turmoil pushed our development programmes to the back-burner but while we were well on the way to resuscitating the economy came the Easter Sunday attacks. Fortunately, withing two months, the security forces were able to arrest those responsible for these attacks. No country has been able to do so in such a short period of time in the aftermath of a terror attack. We launched the distribution of Samurdhi benefits and the Gamperaliya and Enterprise Sri Lanka programmes soon after the April 21 attacks,” he said.

The Prime Minister said Tabs will be distributed in three stages with advanced level students in national schools being given tabs during the first phase. “Children in schools having WiFi will receive Tabs during the second phase while other schoolchildren will receive them during the third phase,” the Prime Minister said.
