The fine imposed on inter-provincial buses that operate without a route permit has been increased from Rs 200,000 to Rs 500,000.

Chairman of the National Transport Commission, Janaka Mallimarachchi noted that over 100 intercity buses run without route permits. He added that the fine has been increased due to the increased tendency of buses to run without route permits.

He went on to note that cabinet papers in relation to the matter will be presented before the cabinet in the next few weeks.
