The new terms and conditions of privacy policy of Whatsapp app would allow Facebook to monitor the activities of its  users through the Whatsapp app and use that data for commercial purposes, the Information Technology Society of Sri Lanka (ITSSL) said.

The updated privacy policy and terms of service  of Whatsapp app will come into force on February 8, 2021, the Facebook-owned company informed users through the notice on its app. Users will be required to accept the updates to continue using WhatsApp on their devices.

“Therefore, in order to use the WhatsApp app from February 8, users will have to agree to the new terms and new set of personal policies laid down by Whatsapp, and users who do not wish to agree to it, will lose the opportunity to use the Whatsapp social media platform from February 8,” ITSSL Head Rajeev Yasiru Kuruwitage said.
