A request was made by the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) to the Election Commission today to register their new alliance Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Sandanaya to contest the upcoming elections under the lotus bud (Pohottuwa) symbol.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has been named as the Leader of the new alliance, former president Maithripala Sirisena as the Chairman and Basil Rajapaksa as the General Secretary.
