England opens the World Cup in style

Batting first England scored a comfortable 311 runs for the loss of 8 wickets.

Winning the toss Proteas skipper Faf Du Plessis decided to bowl first. Ben Stokes top-scored for England with 89 runs.

Lungi Ngidi picked up 3 wickets for 66 runs. Chasing a target of 312 South Africa were bowled out for just 207 runs.

South African star batsman Hashim Amla was taken off the field after a head knock but returned in the 32nd over. Interestingly both of these teams have never laid their hands on the World Cup.
