Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake said yesterday the United National Party (UNP) had not yet decided on its presidential candidate though several party members had made comments about a person perceived to be fielded.

The minister who is also the UNP deputy leader made this comment to the media after attending a function held at a mosque in Maradana.

“Several UNPers have mentioned the name of an individual for candidacy without any basis. The UNP will nominate someone who is mature and not field a person who is unable to even win his own constituency for the party. We will select a person who is capable of fulfilling the interests of all communities,” he said.
