Several areas in the country would receive a heavy rainfall of over 100 mm in the evening or night, the Department of Meteorology said.
While issuing a weather forecast for today, the Department said heavy deluge could be expected in some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may occur in a few places in Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night, they said.
The general public are advised to take adequate preventive measures to safeguard themselves from gutsy winds, squall and lightning during thundershowers.
