During a media briefing yesterday (June 27) Deputy Minister Nalin Bandara noted that when they approved the 19th amendment to the constitution, apart from one MP, everyone else voted in favour of it.

However, he said the recent opposition against the amendment is part of the SLFP’s search for a strategy to face the upcoming presidential election.

The Deputy Minister believes that there is no point in blaming the 19th amendment to the Constitution.

He added that everyone was aware of the 19th amendment prior to its approval. He said as a party, the UNP is looking at ways to go beyond the 19th amendment and to abolish executive powers.
