The Government has decided to remove the controlled prices imposed on several essential items including wheat flour, milk powder, Cement and LP Gas at a special discussion with the Cabinet of Ministers yesterday night.

However, Minister Gamini Lokuge said that prices of these items will not increase in the local market.

The Government has decided to take every possible effort to ensure that there is no shortage of essential items in the market, the Minister said.

Meanwhile, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said that the prices of these items will not be allowed to increase in an unfair manner even though the controlled prices were removed by the Government. “We will be taking stern action if prices of these items are increased in an unfair manner,” he said.
