Strong winds and showers in several provinces

Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50 kmph can be expected in Central, North-western, North-central and Southern provinces and in Badulla and Trincomalee districts, stated Meteorological Department.

Showers will occur at times in Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and several spells of showers will occur in Western, Southern and North-western provinces. Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Northern Province and Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00p.m.

Fairly heavy falls about 50 mm can be expected at some places in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the south western and southern sea areas of the island.

Winds will be south-westerly in direction in the sea area around the island. Wind speed will be 30-40 kmph.

The sea area extending from Tangalle to Pottuvil via Hambantota can be rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 50-60 kmph.

The wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times in the sea area extending from Mannar to Kankasanturai.
