State Minister makes a sudden visit to BIA

State Minister of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle paid a sudden visit to the Katunayake Bandaranayake International Airport to look into the current COVID-19 preventative measures being implemented at the airport.

State Minister also inquired into the measures being implemented to facilitate the return of tourists into the country shortly.

The minister closely observed the measures being followed at the BIA regarding incoming passengers and the outbound passengers and also closely observed the dedication of the BIA staff and security personnel towards maintaining of proper safety measures.

She visited all the areas where passengers frequent and looked into the safety measures, facilities provided for passengers and also looked into the information being provided to passengers.

Having looked into the time span spent at the airport by passengers arriving at the BIA, she instructed the airport authorities to ensure that all passengers arriving in the country complete all formalities and are directed to quarantine facilities within a time period of two hours.

Responding to media queries regarding her observations during the visit, Minister Fernandopulle said that she was satisfied with the efforts taken by the BIA staff and security to address the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that she appreciates their efforts and thanks them for their dedicated service.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control Dr. Amal Harsha de Silva BIA Manager G.K.D.C.D Samaratunga and several other officers accompanied the minister on the inspection tour.
