SJB files motion to take FRs next week

The General Secretary of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya presented a motion to the Supreme Court today to fix the fundamental rights petition next week.

The motion filed by SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara together with party attorneys requests that the court hear the petition filed on the 6th of this month on the May 11, 13 and 14.

The initial FR Petition had requested that the Gazette issued by the National Elections Commission declaring the 20th of June as the date of the election, and the Gazette dissolving Parliament issued by the President on the 2nd of March, be made null and void.

The first FR filed by Att.-at-Law Charitha Gunarathne requested the petition to be taken up on May 11, 13 and 14.

Centre for Policy Alternatives who challenged the election process also filed a motion that their case is taken up on the same dates.
