The Parliament is the most wasteful state institution in the country according to UPFA Parliamentarian Vidura Wickramanayake.
Speaking to reporters following an event in Horana, the MP noted that the Government incurs a cost of Rs 9.2mn on a day parliamentary sessions are held, adding that Rs 8.7mn is spent by the Government on a daily basis on days which Parliament is not being held.
Wickramanayake described the Parliament as an institution that has no unity and is out of touch with the issued faced by the general public. He added that the sanctity of parliament has been violated by people who throw chili power and people who carry knives into the chamber, he questioned if Parliament has yielded any results?
The MP from Horana believes that there would not be an issue is Parliament is closed down for one or two years and the funds dedicated to maintaining it are invested in the education system of the country. He went onto state that Sri Lanka needs a change in ideology if the country is to progress.
