Showers expected in some parts of the island

Prevailing showery and windy condition over the south-western part of the island is expected to reduce during next few days, says the Department of Meteorology.

Showers will occur at several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Strong gusty winds about (50-60) kmph can be expected across the island, particularly in the Northern, North-central and North-western provinces, Trincomalee and Hambantota districts and in the western slopes of the central hills.

The Meteorology Department stresses that it will be dangerous to venture into the sea areas extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Kankesanturai via Mannar until tomorrow morning (17). Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.

Wind speed can increase up to (60-70) kmph in the deep and shallow sea areas extending from Hambantota to Pottuvil and from Puttalam to Kankesanturai via Mannar. These sea areas can be rough or very rough at times.

Wind speed can increase up to (50-60) kmph at times in the sea areas extending from Kankesanturai to Trincomalee via Mullaitivu. These sea areas can also be rough at times.

Gusty winds up to (50-55) kmph can be expected in the other sea areas around the island and will be fairly rough at times.
