The life of MP Ranjan Ramanayake who has been convicted for Contempt of Court is in danger as he has received death threats from fellow prisoners at Angunakolapelessa prison, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said yesterday.
Mr. Premadasa urged the Government to transfer him to a prison in Colombo.
Mr. Premadasa who visited Mr. Ramanayake in jail said he was informed that the latter had been kept with prisoners convicted for drug trafficking and that he had received threats from them.
“The Government will have to take responsibility if something happens to Mr. Ramanayake. Therefore, we urge the Government to make arrangements to transfer Ramanayake to Colombo. He is under threat by some fellow prisoners,” Mr. Premadasa said.
Mr. Premadasa also urged the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene to give a fresh ruling on Mr. Ramanayake’s parliamentary seat.
