Rainfall of over 100 mm expected in some places

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places over the island particularly in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, and North-western provinces during the evening or night today (08), according to the Department of Meteorology Department.

Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places, the Department said.

A few showers will occur in the coastal areas of Eastern and Northern provinces in the morning too.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western and Uva provinces and in Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas around the island in the evening or night. Several spells of showers may occur in the Eastern and Northern sea areas in the morning too.

Winds will be North-easterly in the sea areas around the island. Winds speed will be (20-30) kmph.

Wind speed can increase up to (40-45) kmph in the sea areas extending from Negambo to Trincomalee via Mannar, and Kankesanturai.

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Negombo to Trincomalee via Mannar and   Kankesanturai can be fairly rough at times.

Other sea areas around the island can be slight to moderate at times. Sea areas can be rough during the thundershowers.
