President proclaims Madhu shrine as an area of veneration

Issuing a special gazette notification, President Maithripala Sirisena has proclaimed the Shrine of Our Lady of Madhu as a place of veneration in Sri Lanka.

The gazette reads that this decision was taken for the religious upliftment of all catholic devotees who travel every year to obtain blessings from this shrine. The land area of this shrine which leads up to the reserve is over 2160.3432 hectares.
