The election monitors state that the number of illegal election propaganda mechanisms and hate comments spread through social media platforms are on the rise with over 100 complaints being lodged so far.
National Convenor of the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence, Manjula Gajanayake states that a separate unit has been established in order to monitor these operations.
The commission further states that 40 complaints have been lodged with regards to illegal election propagation carried out through many social media platforms which mainly includes Facebook. Necessary action has been taken on 25 of these complaints after matters were informed to the relevant social media platforms.
