The Department of Immigration and Emigration has taken measures to increase the fee charged in issuing passports with effect from tomorrow (June 01).
In a communique issued by the department it states;
- The amount charged for the normal service which was at Rs. 3000 has been increased by Rs. 500. Thereby the new price for issuing a passport under the normal service will be Rs. 3,500.
- Under the normal service, the amount charged to issue a passport for children under 16 years of age valid for a period of three years was Rs. 2000. However with an increase of Rs. 500 the new price stands at Rs. 2,500.
- The amount charged for the one day service which was previously Rs. 10,000 has now been increased by Rs. 5000. The new price stands at Rs. 15,000.
- Under the one day service, the amount charged for children under 16 years of age valid for a period of three years was Rs. 5,000. The amount now stands at Rs. 7,500 following a price increase of Rs. 2,500.
The communique further reads that when amending passports, previously Rs. 500 was charged per amendment. However, that sum has also been increased up to Rs. 1000.
