International observers commence activities

Both local and foreign election observers have begun supervising the activities of the Presidential elections 2019.

The Commissioner-General of the National Elections Commission, Saman Sri Rathnayake states that 17 foreign observers are currently engaging in election observing activities.

In addition, 88 observers from the European Union, 20 observers from the Forum of the Election Management Bodies of South Asia, 15 commonwealth election observers and 45 observers from the Asian Network for Free Elections have also arrived to monitor the election.

Meanwhile, the National Polls Observation Center stated that they have deployed 1200 observers to monitor the election while nearly 3000 personnel has been deployed from the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence.

The executive director of PAFFREL, Rohana Hettiarachchi states that they have deployed over 3000 observers for election supervising.
