Due to a low level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, prevailing showery condition is expected to enhance over the island particularly, in the North-central, Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces is expected to continue during 1st to 3rd October.
Showers or thundershowers will occur in the most parts of the island during evening or night, stated the Meteorological Department.
Heavy falls above 100 mm can be expected at some places in the Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa, North-western and Southern provinces and in Mannar and Vavuniya districts.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
There is a possibility that sea areas will be fairly rough, off the coast extending from Panadura to Hambantota via Galle and Matara, may experience sea surges until the evening of 30th September 2018, due to the effect of swell waves, having 2.0-2.5 m height. However, this is not relevant for land area.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Potuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. Heavy showers can be expected at South-eastern deep sea areas and in the sea area extending from Negombo to Galle via Colombo.
Winds will be North-westerly or variable in direction in the sea area around the island. Wind speed will be 20-30 kmph.
