Geological Survey and Mines Bureau investigating minor tremor

The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau dispatched a special team to Digana, Kandy where a minor tremor was experienced on Wednesday (18).

GSMB Chairman Anura Walpola speaking to media said the team will explore the reasons for the tremor to be experienced.

The incident was reported at 09:28 AM on Wednesday (18) and was recorded at the Pallekele Seismic Station and measured 2.0 in the Richter Scale.

Earlier, minor tremors were experienced in Digana, Haragama and Anuragama and the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau said the cause of those tremors was unstable limestone layers under the surface.
