The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has decided to launch 24 hours of island-wide work stoppage starting from today 8.00 am to tomorrow at 8.00 am, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said.

“The strike will be staged with regard to several issues, mainly over the failure to legalise the minimum standards of medical education and amending of the service minute for doctors,” addressing a news briefing, Dr. Aluthge said.

However, he said they had decided to attend to emergency services at all hospitals during the time of the strike.

“The strike action will not be in effect at all maternity hospitals, children’s hospitals, Cancer Hospital – Maharagama, renal treatment centres and armed forces’ hospitals,” he said.
