Diabetes leads to eye conditions in SL

A survey had revealed that 30% of those with diabetes are diagnosed with eye-related conditions namely diabetic retinopathy.

Consultant eye surgeon of the National Eye Hospital, Dr Kapila Banduthilaka noted that diabetes has caused the rapid increase of the eye conditions in Sri Lanka.

The survey further revealed that 10% of diabetes patients have lost their eyesight partially while 1%-4% have lost their sight completely.

Dr Kapila Banduthilaka added that measures can be taken to prevent eye diseases caused by diabetes.
