CEB prepares to purchase 300MW from private sector

The Ceylon Electricity Board is preparing to purchase 300 MW of electricity from the private sector.

CEB officials noted that the power purchase will be for a period of 6 months and that the cabinet paper in this regard has been submitted to approval.  The CEB expects to call for tenders after obtaining cabinet approval.

The CEB notes that the additional power will be required to maintain day to day electricity services during the dry spell.
