700 kilos of smuggled turmeric seized in Kalpitiya

Around 700 kilos of turmeric worth Rs 2.5 million smuggled into the country from India was seized on Sunday, police said.

The operation to seize the contraband had been set in motion after receiving information that it had been buried along the coast of Kappalady in Kalpitiya.

The seized turmeric is to be produced at the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court for legal action. The Police have launched a probe to identify the suspects involved in the racket.
