22 from Navy tested positive for coronavirus yesterday – Army Chief

Sri Lanka confirmed a total of 30 coronavirus cases on Wednesday (29) as the tally escalated to 649.

Out of this daily count, 22 patients have been identified as naval personnel, says the Commander of Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva.

20 of these officers are from the Welisara Navy Base and the other two officers were identified while on leave, he added.

In the meantime, another coronavirus patient has been detected from a quarantine centre operated by Sri Lanka Air Force. This person is a resident of Gunasinghepura area, the Army Chief continued.

The remaining 7 patients have been identified as close relatives of naval personnel. One of these patients is an officer of Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Silva stated. They are from Badulla, Thalathu Oya, Hokandara, Kantale and Moronthuduwa areas.

Meanwhile, 136 COVID-19 patients have completely recovered and were discharged from hospital so far.
