Indian Ocean: Defining our future” Conference on Oct. 11-12th

In the last decade the Indian Ocean has emerged as one of the world’s busiest and most critical trade corridors. Carrying two thirds of global oil shipments and a  third of bulk cargo, it hosts the most critical sea lanes of communication (SLOCs), directly impacting the development of global trade and economy. Managing expectations and ensuring order in an era of rapid change will be central to achieving security and prosperity for the region. The Indian ocean: Defining our future Conference of 2018 will explore the region’s strongest challenges and opportunities in a 2- day symposium featuring international dignitaries, and experts from the littoral states and beyond. Sri Lanka’s geographical with the international community makes it an ideal convenor of such an international conference.

Addressing a Media conference at the Auditorium of the Government Information Department Acting Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Dr. Harsha de Silva said thatthe conference, which is scheduled to be held on 11-12 October ,2018 at Temple trees is an initiative of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, and aims to create a platform for Indian Ocean littoral states and major maritime users to discuss issues of mutual interest and concern, and work towards an understanding that benefits all.
