It is possible for the country to be reopened soon going by the current situation pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic, said Chief of Defence Staff, Army Commander and Head, National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) General Shavendra Silva.

He told the media that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had already instructed the COVID-19 Task Force to propose restrictions that need to be retained in the event the country is reopened next week.
He said the health authorities would come up with the proposals in the next couple of days.

The Army Commander said that the final decision whether the country will be reopened under the proposed restrictions would be announced tomorrow (17).

The Quarantine Curfew was imposed on August 20 due to the rapid increase of COVID-19 cases and fatalities. The Quarantine Curfew was twice extended and is currently in effect until 4 a.m. on September 21.
