Director-General of Health Services, Dr. Anil Jasinghe said the COVID-19 spread in the Western Province was brought under control to a certain extent.

Dr. Anil Jasinghe however added, it is impossible to say the situation is 100% under control despite the high number of PCR tests conducted in the Western Province, especially targeting the people in high-risk areas.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, Sri Lankan authorities have not lost control of the spread of the virus adding authorities have actually taken control of the present situation.

Dr. Anil Jasinghe went on to note it is not possible to predict if the situation will be totally under control by the 04th of May adding the strict measures taken to prevent the spread would probably extend until after Vesak.

According to the statement, 1397 PCR tests were carried out on Thursday while it is aimed to carry out 1500 PCR tests daily.

Dr. Anil Jasinghe said if required 3000 PCR tests would be carried out daily as the Universities are also involved in testing in addition to the test kits donated by China.
