The government of Lebanon has decided to extend conditional general amnesty for the Sri Lankans living illegally in the country.
Sri Lankans migrants who work in Lebanon without proper legal documents will be able to return to Sri Lanka during this period.
While the Lebanese government would not consider the length of stay in Lebanon illegally, a fine – LL (Lebanese Lira) 400,000 for a male worker, LL 300,000 for a female worker – will be imposed on them.
Further, the amnesty can be obtained after legal action has been initiated against the accused on criminal charges.
Accordingly, workers who wish to return to Sri Lanka will be able to obtain an exit permit by registering with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Lebanon.
Those who wish to obtain amnesty may send their information to the Embassy via email or WhatsApp as the country is currently under a complete lockdown until April 12. After studying the information provided, those who are eligible to be issued exit permits will be registered at the Embassy.
However, the exit permits will be issued only after the re-opening of airports between Sri Lanka and Lebanon.
Furthermore, due to the spread of COVID-19, entry to Sri Lanka from foreign countries will depend on the decisions taken by the Sri Lankan government on the advice of the health sector.
