Counterfeit currency worth Rs 497,000 busted in Anuradhapura

Two persons have been arrested in the Anuradhapura area for the possession of counterfeit currency.

The counterfeit notes were discovered during the inspection of a vehicle that was parked at the Isurumuniya car park. The police discovered 90 fake notes with Rs 5000 denominations and a further 47 notes with Rs 1000 denominations. The police also recovered 280 grams of fake gold, two mobile phones, and an edged weapon.

The suspects, residents of Homagama and Bandarawela, are due to be produced before the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court later today.
