600,000 letters piled up at the Central Mail Exchange

Department of Posts had stated that 600,000 letters have been piled up at the Central Mail Exchange due to the trade union action by the postal service employees. Postmaster General Ranjith Ariyaratne noted that 350,000 of them are business letters.

He noted that all the administration offices in the island are in operation, however, a number of post offices and sub-post offices were closed.

Last night, postal employees resorted to take sick leaves and engage in a trade union action due to a number of demands not being met as promised. Convenor of the Joint Postal Services Trade Union Chinthaka Bandara noted that around 26,000 postal service employees have collectively engaged in the trade union action.
