Exports from Sri Lanka to China have doubled for the first time in ten years, says the Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen.

Department of Commerce of Sri Lanka has now entered the world’s largest retail market, the Minister further said.

He made these comments at a meeting held at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, with a Chinese delegation headed by the Chairman of China National Agriculture Wholesale Market Association (CAWA) Zengjun Ma and three others.

The annual wholesale turnover of CAWA is estimated to be USD 1.4 trillion.

The Chairman Zengjun Ma has reportedly said during the meeting that Sri Lankan products are essential for the Chinese market.

The press release issued by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce regarding the meeting stated that an agreement was reached to render China’s latest seafood processing technology to Sri Lanka.
