Showery condition expected to enhance – Meteorology Department

Meteorology Department says that the prevailing showery condition is expected to enhance over the island tomorrow, due to the low level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.

Showers or thundershowers are expected to occur in most parts of the island after 2.00 p.m.

Heavy falls above 100 mm can be expected at some places in the North-western, Central, North-Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Mannar district.

Showers or thundershowers may occur in Western, Southern and Northern coastal areas in the morning too, according to the forecast.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the inland areas of the Western province and in Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces over the island during the morning.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in sea areas around the island.

Heavy showers or thundershowers can be expected at sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanturai to Matara via Puttalam, Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be variable in direction in the sea areas around the island and wind speed will be 15-20 kmph.

The sea areas extending from Matara to Potuvil via Hambanthota can be fairly rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 40-45 kmph at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
