Showery condition to continue over island – Meteorology Department

Due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, the prevailing showery condition is expected to continue over the island during the next few days, the Department of Meteorology stated.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the most parts of the island after 2.00 p.m.

Heavy falls above 100 mm can be expected at some places in the North-western, North-Central, Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Jaffna district.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Western, Southern and Northern coastal areas in the morning too.

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces over the island during the morning.

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

The Department requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in sea areas around the island, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Heavy showers can be expected at sea areas off the coast extending from Jaffna to Matara via Puttalam, Colombo and Galle.

Winds will be variable in direction in the sea areas around the island and wind speed will be 15-20 kmph. Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected during thunder showers.
