The Natural Hazards Early Warning Center has issued an advisory of severe lightning and heavy rain to several provinces.
According to the warning, “thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, Uva, North-Central and Eastern provinces and in Mannar, Mullaitivu and Hambanthota district. Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places in these areas..”
It also stated that, “there may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. General public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity”.
