The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) yesterday (12) approved a Rs.363 increase in the price of a Laugfs 12.5 kg domestic LP Gas cylinder. With this increase, the price of a Laugfs 12.5 kg domestic LP Gas cylinder increased from Rs.1,493 to Rs.1,856.

Laugfs Gas has increased the price of a 5 kg small LP Gas cylinder from Rs. 600 to Rs.743.

Cooperative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said yesterday (12) that despite Laugfs asking for an increase of Rs.475 for a domestic 12.5 kg LP Gas cylinder, the CAA approved only a rise of Rs.363 for a 12.5 kg cylinder.

It was disclosed yesterday that Litro Gas will not increase domestic LP Gas prices. Litro, which has a market share of nearly 85 per cent, will sell at the same price (Rs.1,493 per 12.5 Kg cylinder) countrywide.

Litro Chairman Thesara Jayasinghe said there will be no shortage of LP Gas in the market as Litro has already increased its production capacity and order volume. State Minister Alagiyawanna urged consumers not to make excessive purchases in the hope that there will be a shortage.
