Treatment for COVID infected people who do not have complications will be given at home from today (9), the health ministry said.

They said the pilot programme began in the Western Province (WP) earlier and this methodology is being expanded islandwide from today.

People between the ages of 2 and 65 who show symptoms or minor symptoms are to be treated at their homes under medical supervision.

The decision was taken considering the increase in daily COVID positive patients and exceeding the hospital capacity.

The patients who tested positive for coronavirus after PCR or Antigen tests will be treated at home under medical supervision following inspection by the area Public Health Inspector (PHI).

The Health Ministry also said that arrangements will be made to treat the infected at home under the relevant health guidelines and the patient will be placed under medical supervision after registration is done over the phone.

Relevant activities will be coordinated through the 24-hour hotline number 1390.
