01 COVID-19 death on Tuesday (23): Fatalities rise to 552

The Director-General of Health Services confirmed that ONE (01) COVID-19 death was reported in the country Tuesday (Mar. 23), raising Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll to 552.

The deceased is a 63-year-old female from Nallur, Jaffna. She died on 22.03.2021 while receiving treatment at Jaffna Teaching Hospital. The cause of death is mentioned as breathing difficulty, cough, diarrhea, and Covid pneumonia.

Meanwhile, another 251 new positive cases were reported on Tuesday (Mar. 23), raising the COVID-19 caseload in the country to 90,765, the Department of Government Information said.

As of Wednesday morning (Mar. 24), there are 2907 active patients receiving treatment, while 87,306 have recovered.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 5972 people received the COVID-19 jab on Tuesday (23); and so far, 844,327 people have been vaccinated in the country.
