There is a political virus which harasses people in addition to the real COVID-19 virus, Leader of Opposition Sajith Permadasa said yesterday.
Speaking during the launch of ‘Leader of Opposition Mobile Service’ at Gothamigama in Kataragama over the weekend, Mr. Premadasa said suppressing the rights of people and political victimisation were the main symptoms of political virus that were being spread all over.
“Leader of Opposition Mobile Service’ will contain this political virus that is spreading,” Mr. Premadasa said.
“It was my late father Ranasinghe Premadasa who first introduced Presidential mobile service when he was the President of this country.he went around towns and villages resolving various issues faced by the people.we will also go from town to town and from village to village listening to issues faced by the people to resolve them, ”he added. The people of Gothamigama said their livelihood of producing and selling ornaments had come to a standstill because of the current pandemic situation. Earlier, many had been engaged in hunting and even selling drugs in this village but they gave up everything and shifted towards producing and selling ornaments.
“However, we hardly have a proper meal now as our industry has come to a standstill because of the pandemic,” a woman in the village told Mr. premadasa.
The Opposition Leader assured them to find redress for their woes.
