Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll tops 150

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 death toll topped 150 following the confirmation of three deaths on Sunday.

The deceased included a 62-year old female of Colombo 10, who had passed away on Saturday, as a result of pneumonia and heart issues caused due to the virus.

She had been transferred from the Colombo National Hospital to the Mulleriyawa Base Hospital after being diagnosed with the infection.

A 71-year old female resident of Wattala who had passed away on Saturday due to pneumonia and blood poisoning, caused due to the virus, was among the confirmed deaths.

She had been transferred from a private hospital to the Infectious Diseases Hospital after testing positive for COVID-19.

The third death reported by authorities was of a 76-year old male from Matale due to pneumonia and heart failure, the government information department said.

He had passed away on Saturday at the Anuradhapura District Hospital to which he had been transferred from a private hospital in Colombo after being diagnosed with COVID-19.

Official figures indicate that the total deaths caused due to COVID-19 in the country stands at 152.
