Prisoners will only be released after 14-days in Quarantine

Prisoners who are released or granted bail from prisons where COVID-19 cases are detected will only be permitted to return to their residence following a mandatory 14-day quarantine process.

Commissioner of Prisons Administration/Rehabilitation and Skill Development Chandana Ekanayake said a decision was taken to direct those individuals to the Pallekele Open Prison Camp or the Weerawila Open Prison Camp, before they are reintegrated into society, following a PCR test and a mandatory quarantine period.

At present COVID-19 cases are reported from the Welikada Prison, Colombo Magazine Prison, Colombo Remand Prison, Mahara Prison, Kuruvita Prison, and the Old Bogambara Prison.
