Budget 2021 on Nov. 17, 2020

The Budget for the year 2021 is to be presented to Parliament on 17 November 2020, party leaders have decided yesterday.

Deputy Government Whip Dilan Perera told Daily Mirror that leaders of political parties representing Parliament who met yesterday decided to go ahead with the presentation of budget 2021 on November 17.

He said the period of the debate will be decided upon by the party leaders who had agreed to meet on 12 November 2020, to decide on the budget debate.

Meanwhile Parliament media unit said the Government had proposed to shorten the debate to ten days but the Opposition had opposed it.

Debate on the Appropriation Bill 2020 which will seek approval of the House for expenditure for the year 2020, will be taken up on November 12,  followed by an adjournment debate on the current situation in the country that will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the same day.

It was reported that journalists will not be allowed in Parliament on that day as well.
