Minuwangoda COVID Cluster tops 2,075

With the recovery of eight more patients who were infected with the COVID-19 virus, the number of recoveries has increased to 3,403, the Health Ministry’s Epidemiology Unit said.

The total number of COVID-19 patients stands at 5,497 with 22 persons reported yesterday, out of which 2,081 patients are still receiving treatment at 16 hospitals.

All COVID-19 positive cases identified yesterday were the associates of Minuwangoda apparel factory workers. Accordingly, the total number of COVID-19 cases reported from the Minuwangoda cluster has increased to 2,075. Another 316 suspected of being infected with the virus are under observation.

Meanwhile the Dehiwala -Mount Lavinia Municipal Council decided to close the Karagampitiya weekly fair yesterday on the directive of health authorities after a person infected with COVID-19 had visited the fair. The Dehiwala police has sent a letter to the Municipal Council to suspend the weekly fair after the approval of the Mayor, police officers and the public health inspectors had informed the traders to leave the premises.

The fair will not be held until further notice and the people in the area have been informed using loudspeakers, the OIC of the Police Environment Unit said.
