95 sailors from Welisara tested positive for COVID-19

11 people tested positive for COVID-19 today, according to the National Operations Centre for Preventing COVID-19.

One person was undergoing quarantine at the Kandakadu Quarantine Facility and the remaining 10 are sailors on leave attached to the Sri Lanka Navy Camp in Welisara.

In total, 95 sailors attached to the Sri Lanka Navy Camp in Welisara tested positive for COVID-19.

68 of them were detected from within the Welisara Navy Camp and the other 27 are those who were on leave.

The Army Commander said a large number valiant Navy personnel were subject to PCR tests over the past few days and today, and reports are to be received later today or tomorrow.

He added, as there were several sailors who were on leave in Kurunegala and Anuradhapara, their families and associates were moved in to quarantine.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said 3053 people are undergoing quarantine across facilities operated by the Military.

Speaking at the National Operations Center for the Prevention of COVID-19, the Acting Chief of Defense Staff said 4507 were released from quarantine facilities operated by the Armed Forces.
