Term of Presidential Commission probing Easter attacks extended

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has extended the term of Presidential Commission of Inquiry appointed to probe the Easter Sunday terror attacks, which was set to expire on March 20.

An extraordinary gazette notification in this regard was issued yesterday (17).

The President, under the powers vested in him by Section 4 of the Commission of Inquiry Act (Chapter 393), has extended the term of this Presidential Commission of Inquiry by six months, until September 20.

In September last year, former President Maithripala Sirisena appointed a five-member Commission to inquire into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

The Commission, headed by Court of Appeal Judge Janak de Silva, consists of Court of Appeal Judge Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne, Retired Court of Appeal Judge Nihal Sunil Rajapaksa, Retired High Court Judge Atapattu Liyanage Bandula Kumara Atapattu and Retired Ministry Secretary W. M. M. Adhikari.
